While in July last year, the Bengaluru traffic police sought help from Yamaraj — the lord of death — during a “Safe drive” campaign, this time it is the Western Railways in Mumbai that needed some divine assistance to spread awareness about the dangers of crossing the train tracks.
“This Yamraj keeps an eye on people and saves lives,” read the caption of the tweet shared by the official Twitter handle of Western Railway.
This Yamraj ji saves lives. He catches people who are endangering their lives by trespassing the railway tracks, but to save them. This Yamraj picks people to release them safely. Please do NOT cross tracks, it’s dangerous. pic.twitter.com/PT81eYVajL

Along with the post were pictures of a man dressed as Yamaraj standing on the railway platform. According to the post, this move is a part of a campaign to encourage people to use overbridges and subways.
“यह यमराज रखते हैं नजर और जान बचाते हैं”! पटरी पार करने के खतरों के प्रति लोगों को जागरूक करने के लिए @rpfwrbct द्वारा चलाए जा रहे अभियान के अंतर्गत यात्रियों को पटरी पार करने से रोकने के साथ ही उन्हें पुल/सबवे के उपयोग के लिए प्रेरित किया जा रहा है। pic.twitter.com/WxB7MTnrvc

While in one of the picture the “Yamraj” is walking on the platform holding his “Danda”, in the other he can be seen picking up a person from the tracks and bringing him back to the railway platform. The post has triggered several reactions online with many lauding the initiative by the Western Railway.
The real Yamraj will be proud of his reel version. https://t.co/VW8OtYTjlY

Man dressed up as god of death carries people away from crossing tracks on foot.
Good example of using tradition to make modern statement. https://t.co/RVXHjqWCrq

Hundreds of people die every year on Mumbai’s suburban trail network while crossing the tracks.
