Former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has become one of the most searched names on Google following President-elect Donald Trump’s announcement that Ramaswamy, along with billionaire Elon Musk, will head a newly created Department of Government Efficiency. This initiative is part of Trump’s plan to fulfill his campaign promise to enhance government spending oversight, with Musk playing a key role in this effort.
According to trends.google, Ramaswamy’s name topped the charts with over 10,000 searches, showing a 900 percent spike in just three hours on Wednesday morning in India.
Ramaswamy, a prominent Indian-American entrepreneur and Republican politician, is known for his strong opinions and unwavering support for former US President Donald Trump.
Born and raised in Ohio to immigrant parents from southern India, Ramaswamy identifies as Hindu but attended a Roman Catholic high school. He holds a degree in biology from Harvard University and later graduated from Yale Law School. At 38, he is a multimillionaire and a former biotech executive.
Despite being considered a long-shot candidate when he declared his run for the presidency in February, Ramaswamy gained attention for his defense of Trump. Although he eventually withdrew from the race, he continues to support Trump, particularly among Christian evangelicals, a key group within the Republican base.
Though Hindu, Ramaswamy often emphasizes the United States’ foundation on “Christian values” and “Judeo-Christian principles,” presenting himself as a nationalist focused on preserving American identity.
Ramaswamy also made headlines for condemning a recent attack on Donald Trump during a campaign event in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was assaulted. He called the incident an attack on democracy.
