A video that shows a student hitting a teacher while an online class was underway has surfaced online. The widely shared clip reportedly shows a teacher of edtech firm Physics Wallah standing in front of a blackboard when the student suddenly appears, slipper in hand, and starts striking him.

The teacher ducks to save himself from the attack. The video appears to have been recorded by a student attending the online class. It is unclear what led to the incident and there has been no official statement from the edtech company yet.

Watch the video below:

Physics Wallah was founded in 2016 by Alakh Pandey and Prateek Maheshwari. Pandey, an educator from Uttar Pradesh’s Allahabad, developed the Physics Wallah app to assist students preparing for competitive exams such as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) and the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

In the wake of this clip, another video purportedly of a Physics Wallah teacher reacting to a student who had allegedly abused him in the comments is going viral. The teacher is seen in the clip proceeding to go into an angry rant during a class.

In August, a teacher employed with the firm apologised for using a “casteist slur”. Manish Raj had allegedly used the slur during an online lecture.

Physics Wallah had then posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, in which the teacher apologised. “We deeply regret & apologize for the inappropriate remarks made by one of our teachers which has hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community. The concerned teacher has rendered a formal apology. Promoting inclusivity is one of our core values and will ensure it’s not repeated,” the Noida-based company said in a post.

In the clip that went viral, Raj was heard saying, “Why did I even take up this profession? At times, I regret having to do this (teach). God, it would have been better had you made me a C****r…I would have polished shoes. Then, my life would have been peaceful.”
