Online scams are evolving by the day. Now, a Reddit post has brought to light a shocking dating scam in Delhi. A user on the r/delhi subreddit shared that he was allegedly duped at a café in Karkardooma: he was slapped with a bill of over Rs 50,000 for food and drinks on his first Tinder date.
The post, titled “TINDER SCAM, [PSA] Got scammed on a Tinder date – beware of cafes running scams in Karkardooma (Delhi),” quickly caught attention and sparked warnings from others who claimed to have faced similar experiences.
According to the Redditor, he matched with someone on Tinder and agreed to meet at a café on the second floor of Chawla’s building, located next to a petrol pump near the metro station. “Everything seemed normal at first,” he wrote, but the staff kept nudging them towards expensive items and never properly showed the menu. By the end of the evening, he was stunned to be handed a bill crossing Rs 50,000. He even attached a photo of it as proof.
Calling it a “scam setup,” the user alleged that certain cafés in the area deliberately target people–often those meeting dates from apps like Tinder–and then trap them with outrageously inflated bills. He urged others to be cautious, avoid little-known cafés near metro stations, and always check reviews online before agreeing to meet.

The post went viral with over three thousand likes and many netizens reacted to it in the comments. A user shared, “Hey, something similar happened with my relative’s son in Kolkata. He filed a consumer fraud case against the restaurant claiming the restaurant added extra items without his knowledge and forced him to pay. These shady restaurants don’t usually have cameras so he lied about not ordering anything except a single item. Consumer court ordered in his favour, that no way, a single college student has consumed that much drinks and food worth 35,000 and compensated him 75,000 and fined the restaurant 1.5 lacs. I don’t know about your situation, but maybe you can try something like this.”
Another user wrote, “Pro-tip always go to a well known place like Third Wave or Blue Tokai on your first date. Also, these thots have an MO, they will never tell you the name of the place, they’ll tell you “XYZ metro station pe milte hai waha se kisi Café me ViBezzz mAtcH karenge,” to which the original poster replied, “the last line she said like this only.”
A third person commented, “Saans lete hain and firse same scam ki post aajati.” (By the time I take a breath, a new scam post drops).
