It has been a while that Prime Minister Narendra Modi made the announcement of demonetisation of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes, but people are yet to come to terms with it. While many are still confused, others have praised the PM’s move to curb corruption and other illegal activities in the country. Several politicians believe the move is likely to bring forth a greater good for the people of the country. Meanwhile, politicians like Arvind Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi, Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati, to name a few, continue to agitate, protesting Modi’s decision.
But recently, a video showing Rakesh Meghwal, former BJP MLA, praising the PM’s move at a BSP rally for the Dalit community in Uttar Pradesh went viral. In the video, Meghwal is excitedly speaking into a mic, calling the demonetisation move the “second surgical strike” by the Modi government. But the line of thought didn’t seem to agree with the others present, and two men, possibly party workers, tried to snatch the mic away and stop him from speaking any further. He was, however, unstoppable as he continued to praise the demonetisation move.
The video has been widely shared on various social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, and even made its way on to Youtube. Some users also took the opportunity to pull a joke at the politician’s expense. One said that after Mayawati got annoyed hearing his speech, she ordered party members to snatch the mike away from him!
Meanwhile, the video managed to garner quite a few reactions on social media.

Meghwal, who is apparently from Rajasthan’s Nagour district, also shared the video on Facebook, along with a post in Hindi. He addressed the incident as unfortunate and insulting, claiming that the behaviour meted out to him was because of the selfishness of a few and with the intention of garnering votes. He even requested naysayers to look at the greater good instead of their personal gain.
