Following a photo clicked by actor Shabana Azmi going viral, Airport Authority of India tweeted out a post requesting people not to circulate morphed pictures, without proper fact-checking.
“Important Announcement from #AAI Since 2015, this morphed image has been doing rounds time and again” the government agency tweeted on November 1.

The tweet came days after Bollywood actor Shabana Azmi shared what she said was a picture of a signboard in Chennai airport on her social media account. The signboard read “Eating carpet strictly prohibited.”

While the Hindi version of the sign reads, “Farsh par khaana sakht mana hai”, which translates to “Eating on the floor is strictly prohibited”, the English one, which read, “Eating carpet strictly prohibited,” clearly fails to convey the same message.
The picture was first circulated in 2015 and went viral again after the actor posted it.

What an outrage India. All I want to do is go down on your curry-stained airport carpet…
Once shared online, it did not take long for the picture to go viral. While many were amused with the signboard, some corrected the translation. “I think they meant eating on the carpet?” read one of the many comments on the post.
