Rapper King, who collaborated with Nick Jonas for “Maan Meri Jaan,” became the first Indian pop singer to walk the Cannes red carpet. A video of King speaking to Brut India about his outfit took over social media, triggering trolls over his accent.

On Sunday, the rapper shared the video and mocked his own accent. While the text on the video reads, “Bahar se padhke aayi farratta angreji bolti woh…usko impress karne ke liye sarkaari school ka ladka main (Foreign returned girl speaking fluent English, me who studied at a government school trying to impress her),” the caption says, “jab atti nahi to accent hi nikalta hai desh se bahar…iykyk par mazaa a agaya bkc naacho!! (When you can’t speak English, you develop an accent outside the country).”

In the viral video, King, with an accent, says, “So, I’m wearing Anamika Khanna tonight and this is Amarapali. I am representing our music right now and I think it’s a great time to be here.”

Shared on May 19, the video accumulated over 1.8 million views as many users flooded the comment section. Reacting to it, a user wrote, “bro trolled himself before people. Good move par meme to banaunga phir bhi.” Another user commented, “Just make a meme and cover your mistakes (I also do it).”
