So, what started with adding some colourful clothes on him in the iconic pose, has now led to full on photoshop battle online. While a few went overboard and gave it a colourful twist using a prism, others swapped his bat with everyday items, from mosquito bats to a mop.

The recent still from Ranveer Singh’s upcoming film 83 is breaking the Internet and so are its memes.

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is all set to play World Cup-winning Indian skipper Kapil Dev in his upcoming film 83, and a recent photo of him imitating the iconic ‘Natraj’ shot had impressed the former cricketer as well. But the photo is now at the centre of a unique photoshop battle online in which it is being modified with hilarious results.

Singh, who had had a few net sessions with the legendary all-rounder and the veteran cricketer, had posted this photo of him playing the shot.

But some on Twitter felt the photo didn’t do justice to the flamboyant star’s typical sense of fashion. What started as the addition of some colourful clothes, became a full fledged photoshop battle online.

The ‘Natraj’ was one of the most devastating shots Dev played against fast bowlers, and almost every time along the ground, closing the face of the bat while pulling it on one leg. (More on the shot)

The photo itself is a throwback to India’s improbable win over Zimbabwe in the 1983 Prudential World Cup at the little-known and quaint Neville Cricket Ground at Tunbridge Wells, Kent. It is the ground where arguably Indian cricket’s most defining innings was played by the ‘Haryana Hurricane’ on a cold, windy day in front of 4,000-odd people, 36 summers back on a June Saturday morning.

Kapil Dev’s immortal innings of 175 not out against Zimbabwe not only saved India from elimination in the 1983 World Cup, but also gave the tottering team momentum and belief that eventually paved the way for that memorable World Cup triumph.
