Who is Ragini Das? Rejected by Google 12 years ago, she now leads its startup arm in India

Entrepreneur Ragini Das has reached a defining milestone in her career, taking on the role of Head of Google for Startups, India. Announcing the news on X, she described the moment as a “full-circle” experience that marks a new chapter in her professional journey.

“Life has come full circle, and I’m excited to share that I’ve joined Google as Head of Google for Startups – India,” Das wrote, expressing both pride and anticipation for the road ahead.

Her career journey began in 2013 when she interviewed with Google and Zomato. Although she didn’t clear Google’s final round at that time, she joined Zomato and spent six transformative years contributing across sales, growth, and international expansion. Reflecting on her time there, she said, “Zomato helped me identify my career moat, gave me lifelong friends, an incredibly steep learning curve and the resilience to eventually take the leap and co-found Leap.club.”

In 2020, Das co-founded Leap.club, a professional network focused on empowering women. According to her LinkedIn profile, the platform “gave me purpose, an identity and I can proudly say, changed lives for thousands of women”. The venture paused operations earlier this year, giving her space to explore personal projects, travel, and spend time with her pet dog, Jimmy.

The opportunity at Google came in August, and she immediately felt a connection. “The role sat at the intersection of 0–10, founders and everything I’ve built over the years. It kinda felt like destiny iykwim,” she wrote. Iykwim is short for “if you know what I mean”. In her new position, Das will work to support early-stage startups by connecting founders with resources, networks, and mentorship crucial for growth. “We’re on a mission to support thriving startups around the world by connecting them to the right people, products and best practices to help them grow,” she added.

Who is Ragini Das?

Ragini Das has built a diverse and dynamic career spanning multiple industries. Before Google, she co-founded Leap.club and held leadership roles at Zomato, as per her LinkedIn profile. She has also worked with Trident Group India and interned at Standard Chartered Bank and Aludecor. Over the years, she has navigated roles ranging from sales leader and marketer to product manager and startup founder.

Das holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (BBA) with first-class Honours from Lancaster University. She completed her schooling at Chettinad Vidyashram in Chennai, where she also served as cultural secretary. Beyond her professional work, she chairs the Women in Startups Committee at the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (Ficci), demonstrating her commitment to fostering female entrepreneurship in India.
