Twenty-one-year-old Kuwar Amritbir Singh from Punjab’s Gurdaspur district has never been to a gym or taken protein supplements but has broken several records related to fitness by following his own unconventional methods of training.

Recently, Kuwar, who belongs to Umarwala village in Batala, set another Guinness World Record for the most push-ups on finger tips while bearing a 20 lb pack on his back in one minute. The Guinness World Records website states that Kuwar was the first person to achieve this record.

Kuwar told indianexpress.com that he attempted the record on March 7 and on July 25 he received an email about the record being accepted by the Guinness World Records. Then on August 17, he received the official certificate from Guinness. Kuwar managed to do 86 push-ups and posted a video of the record attempt on Instagram.

Kuwar said he felt proud of being the first person to set this record. He came up with the idea for the record as after his previous Guinness World Record, which was for the most push-ups with claps (finger tips) in one minute, a lot of people were asking him which record he was going to attempt next.

“After my previous record which I attempted in February last year, I took it easy for a few months. Then I trained hard for 24-25 days to practice for this record and managed to achieve this,” Kuwar said.

He is no stranger to breaking records in fitness. When he was just 17, he did 118 knuckle push-ups in one minute. That record was recognised by World Records of India. In 2020, he set the record for the most number of superman push-ups in 30 seconds. He did 35 superman push-ups to register his name in the India Book of Records.

What makes him stand out from other fitness conscious youngsters is that he doesn’t go to a gym or take supplements. He has made a make-shift gym at a cattle shelter in his home at Umarwala village. Using bricks, gunny bags full of sand and cemented plastic cans for building strength, he just follows a natural diet at home.
