The Pakistan cricket team landed in India on Wednesday to take part in the ICC World Cup beginning October 5. The Babar Azam-led team arrived at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad amidst visa delays and was accorded a warm welcome by the crowd.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) posted a video of the team’s arrival on X showing the crowd cheering for the team and recording the players on their mobile phones. Many people surrounded the team bus as the players waved at them. The players and the team staff were also given scarves on their arrival at the team hotel. “A warm welcome in Hyderabad as we land on Indian shores,” Pakistan Cricket (@TheRealPCB) posted as caption.

Pakistan cricketer Imam-ul-Haq shared a photo with teammates Babar Azam, Abrar Ahmed and Zaman Khan sipping tea in their hotel room on Thursday. “Hyderabad, chai and us,” he captioned the post.

It is the first time since the 2016 T20 World Cup that the Pakistan team is in India to play competitive cricket. The team will spend a lot of time in the capital of Telangana having arrived from Dubai.

Pakistan will play their opening warm-up game against New Zealand on September 29 before taking on Australia on October 3. They open their tournament campaign against the Netherlands before battling with Sri Lanka on October 10.

As reported earlier, the Pakistan players had got their Indian visas less than 48 hours before their scheduled travel. Both India and Pakistan only face each other in Asia Cup and ICC events due to the tense relations between the two countries. Only Mohammad Nawaz and Salman Ali Agha have visited India previously for cricket as Babar could not play in the T20 World Cup in 2016 due to an injury. The India-Pakistan game is scheduled for October 14 in Ahmedabad in front of a crowd of more than one lakh.
