The Mohali Police has arrested two members of a Nepali gang involved in a string of thefts and robberies in Sector-82, Aerocity, and IT City areas under the jurisdiction of the IT City police station. The arrests were made based on a tip-off.
According to the police, the accused were involved in a burglary at the house of Amit Khanna, a resident of IT City, on October 18. Based on Khanna’s complaint, a case was registered at IT City Police Station under Sections 331(4) and 305(A) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During a routine checkpoint near Airport Chowk, police stopped two young men riding an Activa scooter. On questioning, the duo became nervous, raising suspicion. They were detained for interrogation, during which they confessed to committing thefts and robberies in Sector-82, Aerocity, and IT City areas, including the one at Amit Khanna’s residence.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Ramesh Bahadur, a native of Narayanpur village, Dang district, Nepal (currently residing in Sector-82), and Deepak, a resident of Gaurai village, Dang district, Nepal (currently living in Mauli Baidwan village, Sector-80). Both were produced in the district court and remanded to two days of police custody.
Police recovered an Activa scooter, four inverter batteries, and two mobile phones from their possession.
DSP Harsimran Singh Bal said,“The accused earlier worked as daily-wage laborers but had turned to theft about a month and a half ago. They are addicted to drugs and used to conduct recces during the day before striking at night.”
He added that their criminal history is being verified.“We are also investigating how long they had been living on rent and whether the landlord had completed their police verification. If not, action will also be taken against the landlord,”DSP Bal stated.
