New trends are buzzing on X, formally known as Twitter, every few days. The latest trend that is engaging netizens is sharing the ‘hit films that one openly hates’ and the ‘flop films that one secretly loves’. The idea behind this trend is to highlight the overrated and underrated films of the Indian film industry.

An X user @HypocriteAman__ shared a poster of the filmAlia Bhat’s Gangubai Kathiawadi and wrote, “a hit movie that i openly hate”. They further explained their choice and wrote that Alia appeared a wrong choice to play the protagonist Ganga Harjivandas, and insisted that “any mature actress like Vidya, Tabbu or Kangana would have been better option”.

Another X user @AkkisKIRA shared a poster of 2009 film Chandni Chowk to China and wrote, “It doesn’t matter to me whether other actors’ movies are a hit or a flop. If someone makes a sequel to Akshay Kumar’s iconic movie, in which he is not there, it becomes a hit, then I will openly hate that movie.”

Commenting on this trend, an X user wrote, “‘a flop movie that I secretly love’ template doesn’t go well in Bollywood because most of the movies that flopped in the box office are the ones that are actually highly rated/liked by all of us. I don’t judge a bollywood film based on how much money it made tbh.”

Expressing a similar opinion another person wrote, “@Humorosaurus “A flop movie that i secretly love” trend doesn’t make much sense. We as an audience have always preferred entertainment over quality. Most of the flops mentioned are amazing films. Should do something like- A bad movie that I secretly love”.
