People are used to savouring the ranch dressing with chips and fries. However, ice cream brand Van Leeuwen took their love for ranch one step further when they launched a ranch-flavoured limited edition ice cream in collaboration with sauce company Hidden Valley.
The unique ice cream flavour was released on March 10, to mark the occasion of National Ranch Day. In its press release, Van Leeuwen explained the ice cream as, “The ice cream boasts the savoury flavours of the ranch, including buttermilk, flavorful herbs and a touch of sweetness, creating a delicious treat that pairs perfectly with salty snacks”.
Ranch dressing is made from buttermilk, garlic, onion, herbs like chives or parsley and spices like paprika, pepper and ground mustard seed. These ingredients are then mixed with mayonnaise or sour cream. Some people also use yoghurt as an alternative to buttermilk and mayonnaise.

While sharing the first look of the ice cream on their Instagram page, Van Leeuwen wrote, “Cat’s out of the bag (or the ranch is out of the bottle). In honor of #NationalRanchDay we give you @vanleeuwenicecream x @hidden.valley Ranch Ice Cream. You’re going to need to make some freezer space for this one.”.
In the comments, many people expressed their suspicion or distaste towards the odd flavour choice. “Absolutely not. I’m a ranch lover and would NEVER try thi,” an Instagram user remarked. Another person wrote, “This just flat out nasty”.
However, some curious folks expressed excitement about the Ranch flavoured dessert. Expressing this view, an Instagram user wrote, “RANCH ICE CREAM BEST OF BOTH WORLDS”. Another person remarked, “My Midwest neighbor can’t wait 🍦”.
