It is widely believed, thanks to journalist and author Malcolm Gladwell’s bestseller Outliers, that to master a skill one needs to spend 10,000 hours doing it. Now, a video showing a man who has perhaps spent more than 10,000 hours using a calculator is going viral.
The undated video, which appears to be taken in an office of an Indian factory or godown, shows a white-haired man using a calculator without even glancing at it. He keeps his eyes on a sheet of paper and uses one hand to rapidly punch numbers into the calculator.
This clip was posted online by an Instagram user @senu_love0786. It is unclear when and where this video was taken. After being posted on October 1, it has gathered over 15 lakh likes.
Commenting on this clip, an Instagram user wrote, “Never seen before this talent amazing ”. Disagreeing with this sentiment, another person wrote, “It’s not called talent it’s called experience”. Another person opined, “bro that’s habit”.
In December 2022, a similar video which showed a group of women smoothly loading their leaf bundles onto a train went viral. The undated video shows the women waiting at a railway platform and just as the train arrives at the platform, they start throwing the bundles inside its coaches.
Interestingly, they pace their movements in a way that all bundles are loaded into the same coach. After the train stops, they quickly load the remaining bundles. It appears that their fast-paced actions were to maximise the brief stoppage time at the station. This video was posted online by an Indian Railways bureaucrat Ananth Rupanagudi (@Ananth_IRAS).
