Indian festivals are often followed by fun games and rituals. Now a video of one such game, involving coconuts, has caught the fancy of netizens.

The video shows how nariyal fodi is played. It is a game that involves two people taking turns to break coconuts on each other’s hands using another coconut. The person who cracks the most coconuts wins. This game is played during Nariyal Purnima, celebrated by Hindu fishing communities along the Konkan coast.

A video that showed two people playing the game was posted online by a popular Instagram account, @ttl.india, on August 31. This year Nariyal Purnima was celebrated on August 31. In the video, a person stands between the two opponents and drinks coconut water from the cracked coconuts.

Commenting on the video, an Instagram user wrote, “Ways of keeping entertainment on 😂 in old days and more of community built-up…😍 ”. Another user wrote, “Yesss this one is fun”.

In Karnataka’s Mangaluru region, people celebrate Kesard Onji Dina by playing in muddy water. Kesard Onji Dinaa translates to “day in the slush fields”. The purpose of the game is to raise awareness about agriculture and sports linked with it.
