A man travelling on the executive class of the Vande Bharat Express train from Uttarakhand’s Dehradun to Anand Vihar in Delhi has claimed he was served a spoiled yoghurt with his meal. In a post on X, the man shared photographs that showed fungus in his yoghurt. Tagging Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Ministry of Railways and the Northern Railway, the man wrote, “(T)raveling to Vande Bharat from Dehradun to Anad vihar in the executive class today. Found greenish layer most probably fungus in the amul yogurt served. This is not expected from the Vande Bharat service.” Northern Railway tagged the official handle of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and directed it to “look into this matter”. IRCTC responded to the post and apologised to the passenger. “Sir, our sincere apology for the inconvenience caused. The matter was immediately attended by onboard supervisor and replaced the curd immediately. Further, curd pack was within the expiry date. The issue is being raised with the manufacturer.” Soon after the photos went viral, social media users reacted to it. “That's fungus, most possibly Aspergillus or Cladosporium sp. based on spore colour,” said one of them. Another user commented, "Many complaints are coming from vande Bharat express regarding food. Strict actions must be taken against contractors. Such types of things damage the credibility of railway." In February this year, a passenger found a dead cockroach in the meal served to him when he was travelling from Rani Kamlapati to Jabalpur Junction.
