‘Just robbing like a wow’: Old CCTV footage of Chennai silk sari heist resurfaces on Instagram

The group of women behind the Chennai sari heist were believed to be a part of a gang from Andhra Pradesh.

A group of women had attempted a daring saree heist in the heart of Chennai earlier this year, leaving the police bewildered and then stumping them with their next move.

The incident unfolded at a sari boutique in T Nagar on October 28. The perpetrators, a group of three women in masks, believed to be a part of a gang from Andhra Pradesh, were caught on surveillance cameras swiftly pocketing an assortment of vibrant and luxurious saris valued at Rs 2 lakh each in 10 minutes.

The police responded promptly, mobilising a team to apprehend the thieves. However, in a sudden twist to this crime, the gang couriered the stolen silk sarees to the police station at Shastri Nagar fearing arrest.

The unusual sari theft in Chennai quickly went viral, capturing the attention of social media users and news outlets alike.
