In preparation for Bihar’s vibrant Chhath festival, the Indian Railways launched a special initiative to celebrate the occasion by playing popular folk songs dedicated to Chhath at more than 100 major stations across India.

According to TOI, this arrangement has been rolled out at 30 stations, where the regular train announcements briefly pause to allow the tunes of Chhath folk music. During intervals when no train information is being broadcast through the automated system, songs by celebrated artists such as Sharda Sinha, Nitu Kumari Navgeet, Vindyavasni Devi, and others are played for passengers.

The report also stated that the Railways had already begun this festive music initiative at over 30 stations in Bihar, including Patna, Danapur, Hajipur, Bhagalpur, Jamalpur, and Sonepur, among others. Similar arrangements have also been made at New Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Anand Vihar Terminal, where a large number of passengers bound for Bihar and other Chhath-celebrating states are expected during the festival rush.

In a video shared by Northern Railways on X, late Sharda Sinha’s Chhath song can be heard at Shimla Railway Station in Himachal Pradesh.

The video quickly went viral, hailing the Indian Railways for this initiative. “Only Biharis can feel this music,” a user wrote. “This song should be made mandatory at all stations in Bihar until the Chhath festival,” another user commented.

“Appreciate this initiative of Indian Railways to play Chhath puja songs at Railway Station. This has further smoothened our journey and made our emotional feelings more connected and grounded with basic roots.

Elaborate arrangements at Northern Railway station are indeed superb,” a third user reacted.
