The Indian leopard is one of the big cats that are found all over India. The agile creature can be spotted almost everywhere — from tropical rainforests to alpine coniferous forests of the subcontinent.
On Monday, Indian Forest Services officer Susanta Nanda (@susantananda3) shared a video that showed a leopard presumably waking up from a nap and then lazily stretching its limbs.
While sharing this clip, Nanda wrote, “Surya Namaskar by the leopard 👌👌”. He attributed the undated video to Saket Badola, who is also an Indian Forest Services officer.
This video has gathered over 3,000 likes since it was posted. However, many netizens pointed out that the leopards’s actions were common with all big cats and associating it with Surya Namaskar, a complex multi-step yoga pose, was an exaggeration.

Echoing this view, a Twitter user wrote, “Could we think of it as “Leopard Stretches” the next time we do it? Why attribute anthropomorphism always, taking away their natural character?”
Another person wrote, “My dogs do the same in the evening as well.. thats not Surya Namaskar, thats being lazy to go out for hunting.”
Back in 2018, pictures of animals like dogs, cats, elephants and pandas ostensibly mimicking yoga poses had gone viral.
