Kindness has the incredible ability to lift someone’s spirits, even through the simplest acts. A man from Delhi recently experienced what could be the toughest 45 minutes of his life while trying to catch a train, but a series of kind gestures helped him save his day.

In a post on X, Shubh shared that he was rushing to board a train from Delhi Cantonment railway station because it was his father’s birthday, and he had promised to see his father. He shared how, without hesitation, the auto driver agreed to take him and started the journey.

“I asked about the fare. He quoted Rs 150, but I managed to bring it down to Rs 130, and we set off. I’ve taken many autos in Delhi, but this one led to an unexpected turn of events. The driver, a middle-aged man with a mustache, long hair, and a thick Haryanvi accent, began chatting about trains. He asked if my train had a second-class coach, as his kids needed to visit their grandparents the next day. I told him no—it was a superfast train with only AC chair cars,” he recalled.

However, after a while, the man began to sense something was wrong. He realised he had arrived at New Delhi railway station instead of Delhi Cantt, and panic set in. “As we continued talking, the roads blurred past, and before I knew it, the auto pulled up at a station. But something felt off. I looked around, my gut sinking. This wasn’t Delhi Cantt. This was New Delhi railway station…. It was 6.10 am—exactly when my train was departing from New Delhi. At Delhi Cantt, it was scheduled for 6.38 am,” he wrote.

The kind autorickshaw driver stopped another auto and requested the driver to ferry him. However, an elderly woman who had booked the auto via an app, was already inside. At first, the woman hesitated but eventually agreed after he explained his situation with his desperation clear in his voice.

As they drove, the woman kept reassuring him, saying, “Chinta mat karo, time se pahunch jaoge (Don’t worry, we’ll get there on time).”

He then shared that her warmth and encouraging words helped calm his nerves. “The auto finally screeched to a stop outside the station at 6.39 am,” he said. However, he had no change for the Rs 200 fare and offered Rs 500, but the driver refused to accept the extra money and took just Rs 100. He added that the train began to move just as his foot landed on the step.

“Today, I saw what kindness truly looks like – from a rickshaw driver who didn’t charge me, from a stranger who shared her ride, and from an old auto driver who treated my urgency as his own,” he concluded the post.

With nearly a million views, the post ignited a range of reactions. “Very hard to believe such act of kindness in Delhi,” a user wrote. “Bless all the Kind souls and wishing your Dad an amazing birthday,” another user commented.

“Sweet! By the way, for Delhi Cantt, Google always shows more time than it takes due to a jam right under the flyover next to the station. It could be there, but it could not be in the next 10 minutes. I’m glad you caught the train,” a third user chimed in.
