Recently, a man from Gurgaon turned to social media to highlight the mental toll his corporate job took on him, leaving him with little space for his personal life.
In an emotional video, the professional, who goes by the name Director Dayal on Instagram, gives a glimpse of his flat in disarray. He emphasises how the lack of time has affected his personal life, leaving him no time to clean even his bed.
In the video, one can see clothes scattered throughout the room, the floor stained, and utensils and cookware sitting in the kitchen sink.
“Those who say work-life balance doesn’t matter, I want to show you why it does,” he says. “I pay over Rs 14,000 for this small space. These clothes have been lying here for a week. These coriander leaves have dried up, and the utensils in the basin have been there for four days.”
Talking about a lamp in the background, he shares, “I bought it from Banjara Market hoping that when I returned from work, I’d turn it on, watch a movie and relax. But that’s far from reality.”
“I’ve been working 12-hour shifts. My condition is worse than a labourer’s. Three people need to understand my condition — first, my boss. I don’t want your job or your money. I’m mentally exhausted. Second, my family. Please understand if I can’t take your calls, it’s because I might be caught up with something important. And third, the girl I’m doing this all for. This is the most I could do,” he adds.

The video, shared on October 30, has amassed over seven million views and resonated with several users. “Some folks say they go to the office just to chill, have lunch, and socialize, it must be nice having that kind of work life balance. But for some of us, our rooms & life looks a lot more like what’s in this video,” a user wrote.
“Its so so so important. I remember the trauma I faced in my first company. Left home at 7.30 am and came back at 12 am. Lost 8 kgs in 6 months,” another user commented.
“Thanks for exposing the other side of hustling culture,” a third user said.
