Ahead of the highly anticipated Lok Sabha elections in 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a 10-day visit to 12 states and union territories (UTs) across India. Today, on March 6, 2024, Wednesday, the PM flagged off India’s first underwater Metro route in Kolkata, Majerhat Metro, Meerut-RRTS section, Pune Metro, and more, in addition to also launching connectivity projects worth INR 15,400 crore in Kolkata, which include the construction of new roads, bridges, and other infrastructure to improve connectivity in the country.

Here’s a list of projects flagged by PM Modi:

  • PM Modi inaugurated one of the major projects, the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade. India’s first underwater Metro service, by taking a ride along with several school students section of Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor. A 4.8-km stretch, it has been built for INR 4,965 crore and includes the deepest metro station in India at Howrah. He also took a ride with located 30 metres below ground level. The corridor will connect key areas, such as the IT hub in Salt Lake Sector V. 
  • To ensure ease of mobility, the PM also flagged off other train services during his visit to Kolkata, which include the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and the Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections.
  • Additionally, he also introduced the nation to the Pune Metro from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadistretch; the Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension project (Phase IB) from SN Junction Metro station to Tripunithura Metro; the Agra Metro‘s stretch from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar; and the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of the Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.
