After many people accused food aggregator Swiggy of charging Rs 3 extra per order, the company has issued a clarification on X and called it a “tech bug”. Swiggy also maintained that users had only been charged the prescribed amount.
Many users took to X to share screenshots of their food bills and pointed out how the amount was being rounded off to the nearest whole number and then an extra Rs 3 were being added to the bill.
An account with the username @kingslyj first pointed out the discrepancy in the bill. He shared a screenshot of the bill with the food amount totalling to Rs 626.57, order packing charges being Rs 35.24, platform fee of Rs 2, delivery partner fee Rs 28, a discount of Rs 52.99 and then taxes of Rs 33.09. While after the aforementioned charges and discount, the final bill should have been Rs 671.91, but Swiggy charged the user Rs 675.
Another #SwiggyScam 🧵
Recently noticed that all Swiggy txns were for whole figure amounts, while other card txns still had paisa amounts.
Dug a bit and discovered @Swiggy used charge the exact amount to the paisa once upon a time but have since started salami slicing. pic.twitter.com/5z7K8BjqSs

The user shared another screenshot of a message by SwiggyCares which said it is following the RBI guidelines of rounding off the bill to a whole number.
And Swiggy is claiming @RBI is forcing them to steal crores of rupees from their customers every year.
In what universe does stealing money like this without any notice “obviate unnecessary discomfort”? https://t.co/unFFqeH0zc pic.twitter.com/smiJcqh7yg

Deepak Shenoy, founder and CEO of Capitalmind, also shared a screenshot of his food bill on Swiggy and accused them or charging Rs 3.4 more.
“Holy moly. This is actual fraud and I found that @Swiggy is doing this even for me! Here’s my last order and it adds up to 255.60. But they charge 259? This stinks. It can’t be some random error, it seems to be on purpose to add rs. 3 extra. What’s going on?” Shenoy wrote.

“Turns out it might just be a display error. Theres an extra rs 3 discount on every order. Platform fee of rs. 5 discounted to rs 2. But in the invoice it shows plat fee of rs 2 only which is the missing rs. 3. Confused as I don’t keep track of what discount I actually got when I ordered. Saw the invoice and added things up. Isn’t malicious, so no fraud,” Shenoy wrote in another tweet.
On Thursday, Swiggy Cares, the official support handle of the food aggregator, issued a clarification regarding the extra charge.
