The ad has left Twitterati in splits! (Source: Twitter)
Ever since the move to demonetise old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were announced, a parallel debate on how e-payment companies are direct beneficiaries of the decision has been doing the rounds as well. From the social media spat between Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and PayTM CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma to regular advertisements by brands like Big Bazaar supporting the move, there has been a huge flood of such ads. And every time, it has triggered some sort of controversy or the other.
The latest to join the bandwagon of ads playing on the current post-demonetisation state of affairs is a print advertisement by a sexual wellness product brand. In a fabulous play of words, the brand has come out in support of the demonetisation, drawing comparisons between the economic move and the effects of the pill – and people could not help but make out double meaning out of it.
The ad which reads, “Think Demonetisation, Think Stay-On” has an interesting tag line that left Twitterati in splits – “It’s not a bitter pill, it’s a power capsule”. The ad also elaborates how we must “congratulate the leader” and support it with all might and also urge people to “stop whining, stop complaining. Just stay on”. We are quite amused by the analogy – pun or no pun, this is hilarious.
The brand also claims that this is not a sacrifice but our duty and commitment in nation building—but what it says next will certainly left one ROFL-ing! “Perform it smilingly, energetically with vigour and vitality. Just Stay On.”
We must say the combination of such self-promotion and the support to economic move has been deadly. If the world has already celebrated brilliant ad by the Norwegian Airlines targeting Brangelina split, and Jordanian Airline’s dig at Donald Trump ahead of the US presidential election results, we sure have found our desi match.
