The viral video featured Mandhana dancing alongside Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy to the upbeat track 'Samjho Ho Hi Gaya'
India’s World Cup hero Smriti Mandhana surprised fans on Thursday by announcing her engagement to music composer Palash Muchhal, and she did it in the most Smriti way possible: through a playful, choreographed Instagram reel with her India teammates.
The viral video featured Mandhana dancing alongside Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy to the upbeat track “Samjho Ho Hi Gaya” from Lage Raho Munna Bhai. What initially looked like a light-hearted team dance suddenly turned into a big moment when Mandhana flashed her engagement ring, finally confirming the rumours that had been circulating for months.

The reel, shot by Dr Prachi Gavali and edited by filmmaker-photographer Enoch Rodrigues (Jemimah’s brother), quickly flooded timelines across social media. Fans and celebrities poured into the comments section with love. Sports journalist-anchor Sanjana Ganeshan called it the “Best thing on the Internet today!” while writer-comedian Varun Grover chimed in with, “You guys are insane.” One fan joked that whoever convinced Mandhana to match steps deserved “to be in the credit roll yaar.” Even the Lucknow Super Giants joined the fun, writing, “Humne bhi suit silwa liya! Congratulations, Smriti.”
Palash Muchhal, meanwhile, had hinted at their relationship earlier when he joked at an event in Indore that Mandhana might soon become “Indore’s daughter-in-law.”
But the biggest surprise came from Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. In a warm congratulatory note, he praised the couple’s shared values and said their bond would be “rooted in trust, love and harmony.” He even slipped in a poetic line, saying Mandhana’s “cover drive” and Muchhal’s “musical symphony” would make for a beautiful partnership. PM Modi also revealed what the Instagram video didn’t, the couple will marry on November 23, 2025.

The engagement news comes at a time when Mandhana is still basking in the glow of India’s historic Women’s ODI World Cup win in Navi Mumbai, where she finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 434 runs in nine innings, the highest by any Indian batter in a single edition.
From lifting a world title to making her engagement Instagram-official, it has been a dreamy few weeks for Mandhana, on and off the field.
