Donald Trump tweets edited photo showing him giving medal to dog who chased ISIS chief

The US president tweeted the picture with the caption 'AMERICAN HERO!'. The photo was from a 2017 event in which Trump honoured a Vietnam war hero, but the veteran was edited out.

Days after a US military dog was hailed as a hero after it chased Islamic State chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi into a tunnel before he detonated a suicide vest, US President Donald Trump tweeted a fake image of him awarding the canine a medal. And it has not gone down well.

In a tweet on Wednesday, Trump shared an edited picture that showed him awarding a medal of honour — the highest and most prestigious personal military decoration awarded to service members — to the military dog involved in the raid. In the caption, the US president called the canine an “American Hero”.

However, the image was an edited one released by conservative website Daily Wire and the original picture is from a 2017 ceremony in which Trump awarded the medal to James McCloughan, a retired army medic. McCloughan was honoured for saving the lives of 10 people during the Vietnam war.

The tweet triggered several reactions online, with many wondering why the US President had to share an edited picture of the dog.

“Did the President of a country really just tweeted a photo of him giving a medal to a photoshopped dog?” asked a user while commenting on the post.
