Job hunting can be tiresome and often takes a toll on candidates, especially when they don’t hear back from their dream organisations. Tizi Hodson, a former stuntwoman, finally got a response to the job application she sent during the initial stage of her career after nearly five decades. The 70-year-old UK woman sent the application in January 1976, which reportedly went unseen as it was trapped behind a drawer in a post office for 48 years, BBC News reported.

“Late delivery by Staines Post Office. Found behind a draw. Only about 50 years late,” the handwritten note attached to the letter wrote. “I always wondered why I never heard back about the job. Now I know why,” she told the BBC. Hodson had typed the application in a London flat and waited for a long time to hear back from the recruiters. “Every day I looked for my post, but there was nothing there, and I was so disappointed because I really, really wanted to be a stunt rider on a motorcycle,” she shared. “It means so much to me to get it back all this time later,” she recalled.

Hodson highlighted how such jobs were not so common among women and she was very careful not to let the recruiters know her gender since she knew it would sabotage her chances of hearing back from them for an interview.

After not receiving a response for so long, Hodson stopped dwelling on it and kept trying for other jobs, finally making a successful career as a snake handler and horse whisperer. She also became an aerobatic pilot and flying instructor. After all these years, Hodson expressed that getting the letter back made her realise what advice she would give to her younger self. “If I could speak to my younger self, I would tell her to go and do everything I’ve done. I’ve had such a wonderful time in life, even if I have broken a few bones,” the BBC quoted Hodson.
