Miss Jamaica Gabrielle Henry falls off Miss Universe stage during ramp walk; video shows contestant being carried on stretcher

According to updates from pageant officials on social media, she did not sustain any serious injuries.

The video of the incident quickly went viral, wherein Henry is seen being wheeled away on a stretcher. “It’s an unfortunate situation. I hope she recovers quickly. Can’t find anything funny in her falling,” a user wrote. “Instead of stopping the show, the other contenders take their walk while Jamaica is being mummified,” another user commented.

Following the accident, Henry was taken to Paolo Rangsit Hospital in the Thanyaburi district of Thailand, where the Miss Universe Jamaica organisation reported she is receiving medical attention. “Medical professionals are attending to her care and have advised that she is not suffering from any life-threatening injuries; however, they continue to conduct tests to ensure her full recovery,” the group announced in a statement shared on social media.

Raul Rocha, president, Miss Universe Organization, also addressed concerns about Henry’s health. He reassured that she is “under good care”, emphasising that she avoided major harm. “I was there with her family and her, and thankfully, there are no broken bones,” Rocha wrote.

Henry, an ophthalmologist and founder of the See Me Foundation, an organisation dedicated to supporting Jamaicans with visual impairments, had been sharing behind-the-scenes moments of her pageant preparations on social media prior to the incident. She had been scheduled to compete in Friday’s Miss Universe finals, an event already clouded by controversy following claims that an “impromptu jury” chose finalists even before the preliminary competition.
