This man walks over 30km in snow to make art and it’s beautiful

Simon Beck walks 30km in the snow to create art he calls 'snow murals', and they are breathtakingly beautiful.

A self-proclaimed artist, Simon Beck specialises in murals — not on walls though. Beck has made the snow spread of Powder Mountain Resort of Utah in USA — located at an elevation of over 8,000 feet — his huge canvas, and his own legs his paintbrush. Beck walks all over the sand in deliberate patterns to create footprint-art. Watch Beck as he undertakes yet another artistic journey on his feet here.

Beck was looking for a way to exercise, when he began to take daily walks in the snow as an alternative to hiking on the mountains. He says it “started out as a bit of fun, but gradually, it’s taken over [his] life.”

Beck draws out a design on a piece of paper for reference, and sometimes just uses a plan from his mind. Swirls, triangles, patchwork…he does them all.

Beck estimates that he takes nearly 5,000 steps every hour while on a project. He invests about two hours in laying out the measurements and the outline, and upto eight hours filling them in — roughly totalling up to 40,000 steps and 30kms a day. He’s certainly got a good deal in terms of physical exercise.

He suspects he’s the only one who draws on snow on such a large scale and we won’t be surprised if he’s right.
