Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge released in 1995, and since then, it has created history, winning multiple recognitions and breaking many records. Now, the movie, starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol - one of Bollywood’s most beloved on-screen pairs - is set to be honoured with a bronze statue in London. This marks a historic moment as DDLJ becomes the first Indian film to be commemorated at Leicester Square’s famed Scenes in the Square movie trail. The statue, capturing an unforgettable moment from the film, will be installed as part of the movie’s 30-year anniversary celebrations. DDLJ, the directorial debut of Aditya Chopra, remains a cultural touchstone even decades after its release. The tribute has been made possible through a collaboration between Yash Raj Films and the Heart of London Business Alliance. Speaking on the occasion, Mark Williams, deputy chief executive of the Alliance, said it was “fantastic” to include the “titans of international cinema” in the movie trail. He added, "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is one of the most successful and important Bollywood films of all time." One of their early moments together, where they unknowingly cross paths, takes place in the heart of London—Leicester Square. The statue will capture Raj (Khan) standing outside the Vue Cinema, while Simran (Kajol) walks by the Odeon Leicester Square—just before their unforgettable adventure begins. According to Yash Raj Films (YRF), the statue will be placed “along the eastern terrace outside the Odeon Cinema,” as a tribute to this beloved scene. With this honour, Khan and Kajol become part of Scenes in the Square, joining a celebrated lineup of film legends from the last century. DDLJ will be in great company—right alongside cinematic icons such as Harry Potter, Mr. Bean, Paddington, Laurel & Hardy, Bugs Bunny, Gene Kelly from Singin’ in the Rain, Mary Poppins, and DC superheroes Batman and Wonder Woman.
