Mughal-E-Azam, the magnum opus of director K Asif, starring Dilip Kumar and Madhubala, is one of the most iconic films of Indian cinema. Now, the legendary story has been turned into a Broadway-style musical.
A public promo was held at New York’s Time Square with dancers performing to the song “Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya”. Twitter user Raza Ahmad Rumi (@Razarumi) shared a video of the musical rendition and dance.

The musical has been directed by Feroz Abbas Khan and it will run from May to August during its North America tour.
“Isn’t it sad that the original author of the play “Anarkali”, written & performed in Lahore in the 1920s by Syed Imtiaz Ali Taj is forgotten and Bollywood has taken ownership. The Pakistan cinema & media industry missed it!” commented a Twitter user. “Got my ticket for chicago show,” wrote another.
“Qayamat will come but no Mughal e Aazam will ever be made again. Because Dilip Kumar (the Prince) and Madhubala (the Enchantment) have left the world. This movie is worth being recognized more!” another commented. “Stupendous! What a rich depiction of Indian culture!” wrote another netizen.
