In 2017, a pastor at the Iglesia del Final de los Tiempos, which translates to the Church of the End of Times, in Mexico, claimed that he had a meeting with "God" and that he was authorised to sell plots in "heaven". The pastor, who assured plots near the God's palace at $100 (Rs 8346, approximately) per square metre, also said a spot in heaven will be guaranteed regardless of the size of the plot. The promotional material circulating online features a heavenly mansion surrounded by golden rays, with a cheerful family of four. It also highlights numerous digital payment options like Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, and even Google Pay and Apple Pay. Many TikTok and Instagram influencers made videos about the church and this bizarre offer, and many established media houses covered the "news" without realising it is satire. They even claimed that the church collected millions of dollars since 2017 by selling plots in heaven. The Iglesia del Final de los Tiempos was a page made to mock exploitative pastors. Their Facebook page is marked under the "Just for fun" category and is used to share bizarre and humorous content.
