Indian-American comedian Akaash Singh recently lit up the Internet with a heartwarming video shared on Instagram. The clip, taken from one of his stand-up shows, has gone viral for all the right reasons.
During his set, Singh spots a familiar face in the audience and asks the woman, “Do I know you?” She replies, “Yes, three years ago. We went to your Austin show.” The camera then pans to the man sitting beside her – her partner – and Singh immediately realises they’ve crossed paths before.
The video flashes back to footage from three years ago, where Singh roasted the same couple after learning they’d been dating for six years without a proposal. Now, three more years have passed – and there’s still no ring. Stunned, Singh exclaims, “This is unbelievable. You still haven’t proposed? We’re nine years in now!”
Taking the moment to the next level, Singh asks for their names — Melissa and Phil — and invites them on stage. Turning to Phil, he says, “Give Melissa and the audience one possible reason you haven’t proposed. If it’s not good, they’re going to boo.”
Handing over the mic, Phil responds sincerely: “It’s not something I need to explain to you guys. I need to explain this to Melissa.” He then turns to her and says, “It took me nine years to become the man you deserve, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”
Saying that, he pulls out a ring and drops to one knee. The audience erupts in applause as Melissa stands in astonishment. Singh is seen jumping in joy.
The video was posted by Singh with a caption, “Greatest Moment That’s Ever Happened at One of my Shows,” and it has amassed more than three million views by now.
Many took to the comments to share their views. Melissa herself commented on the post, “That’s me!!!! I still can’t believe how it happened. What a great sequel to our story.”
A netizen wrote, “Literally gasped when this turned into the proposal she deserved it years ago but happy it finally happened for them.”
Another user commented, “Bro’s not just a mere wingman, he’s the entire strike carrier group all alone.”
Singh later revealed in the full version of the video, which he shared on his YouTube channel, that the surprise proposal wasn’t spontaneous at all.
After the emotional moment on stage, he told the audience that Phil had actually reached out to him months earlier to plan everything in advance. The two had even coordinated over video calls to make sure every detail of the proposal played out perfectly.
