The capital of the United Kingdom was buzzing with the much-awaited London Marathon, which saw the participation of 48,000 runners from Greenwich to The Mall on Sunday.

The marathon was won by 23-year-old Kelvin Kiptum from Kenya. The star runner finished the 42-km-long distance in 2 hours, 1 minute and 25 seconds (02:01:25). With this, he made the world record for the “fastest time to run the London Marathon (male)”. Along with the top 10 finishers, Kiptum got the winning prize of $55,000 (approximately 45 lakh).

As per the Guinness World Records, a total of 44 unique world records were created by runners in the costumes. Alex Grady, dressed as a boxer, was the first runner in a costume to reach the finish line at 02:38:52. Gardy was running the marathon to raise awareness for Power2, a charity based in London. He got the Guinness World Record for the “fastest marathon dressed as a boxer”.

Paul Evans ran the marathon dressed as a valiant knight to raise money for the UK-based national charity Ambitious About Autism. Evans’s son was diagnosed with autism at the age of three, which prompted him to aim for the title of the “fastest marathon dressed as a knight” and at the same time raise money for the charity.

Some of the other fun records at the marathon were gained by Jack Meegan and Daniel Gallagher, who got the title of the “fastest marathon with two runners handcuffed together (male) – 02:53:33”.

Annelise Broussard ran the marathon dressed as a candy and broke the world record for the “fastest marathon dressed as a candy confectionery item (female) ”. Fiona Betts’s elaborate aircraft costume gave her the world record for the “fastest marathon dressed as a three-dimensional aircraft (female)”.
