Indian-origin Canadian shares racist encounter in WaterlooAshwin Annamalai, an Indian-origin Canadian citizen, had to endure a racist outburst in Ontario’s Waterloo. He posted a video of the incident on X, showing how a woman told him to “go back where he came from.”
Annamalai captioned the post, “The once welcoming community of Kitchener-Waterloo has seen a disturbing rise in hate, particularly against people of colour.”
In the video, Annamalai can be seen calmly telling the woman he’s Canadian. She refuses to believe him and responds saying, “You’re not Canadian. I’m being aggressive to you because too many Indians are in Canada, and I want you to go back.” Despite Annamalai repeating he is Canadian, she continued shouting, “Go back to India.”
At one point, the woman accuses him of not speaking English. Annamalai then speaks to her in French, one of Canada’s official languages, and asks if she could do the same. The woman claims she understands French and eventually walks away, cursing in English.
