In a heart-stopping moment captured on video, a 2-year-old toddler found herself in an unexpected encounter with a giraffe at the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, just south of Fort Worth in Texas, USA.
The incident, which left the 2-year-old unharmed but certainly startled, quickly gained attention after the footage circulated online. Shared by @expressnews on Instagram, the caption mentions, “Jason and Sierra Toten brought their 2-year-old daughter Paisley to the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center in Glen Rose, which offers a drive-thru safari where guests can interact with dozens of species face-to-face.”
2-year-old Paisley was seated in the bed of a truck, attempting to feed the towering giraffe when things took an unexpected turn. A famished giraffe caught sight of the food bag Paisley held, but in its eagerness for a snack, inadvertently seized her shirt. This resulted in a brief moment where it lifted her skyward before promptly releasing her into her mother’s arms.
“The safety of our guests and animals is always of utmost importance to us,” a spokesperson for the Fossil Rim Wildlife Center said. “Although an incident like this has never occurred here previously, we are taking immediate action to make sure it won’t happen again, reported Spectrum News.

Fortunately, Paisley emerged from the encounter unscathed. On seeing the video, one user wrote, “Toddler riding in an open pickup bed?? Seriously??” Meanwhile a second user mentioned, “Clearly they did not follow the safari park rules of only rolling down windows, staying in your vehicle, etc!! and should be fined! Plus, put that kid in a car seat.” And a third said, “Giraffe said, “hold your kid before I hold her for you”.
