In a terrifying incident, a giant fish attacked a Russian aquatic artist performing as a mermaid at a Chinese aquarium. The incident occurred at the Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park in southern China on January 28.

Dressed as a mermaid, Masha, the artist, was performing in front of children at the aquarium. In a video shared by Daily Mail Online, Masha can be seen swimming among several fish, waving at the audience. The incident unfolded when she began manoeuvering towards the surface. A giant fish swims through and grabs her face with its jaws, almost swallowing her head. Several children in the background can be heard screaming in fear.

According to the New York Post, Masha sustained injuries in her goggles, nose clips, neck, head, and eye. The authorities offered $100 (nearly Rs 9,000) to Masha for “moral damages” and were stopped from speaking about the incident. She was also asked to get back into the water to perform despite her injuries.

Sharing the video, Daily Mail Online wrote, “This is the harrowing moment a giant fish attacks a ‘mermaid’ performer.”

Several social media users reacted to the viral video, garnering over 27,000 views. “Her whole head almost got swallowed,” a user wrote. “With that costume she looked like a fish,” another user commented.
