In a scene reminiscent of something out of a Harry Potter novel, residents of Sydney were left bewildered by the sight of a mysterious black cloud hovering ominously low in the sky. Concern rippled through the community as onlookers speculated about the origins of the eerie phenomenon.
With UFO sightings and unexplained aerial phenomena dominating headlines, it’s no wonder that people are on edge when they encounter something unexpected in the sky. However, not every strange sighting is cause for alarm. As one man captured the unsettling scene on video, viewers couldn’t help but draw parallels to the dark and ominous clouds associated with the Wizarding World’s dementors. But, fear not! The truth behind this particular cloud is far less sinister.
This is called a “scud cloud”. Scud clouds are low-lying, irregular clouds, often jagged or wispy and are commonly associated with storm fronts. While they may bear a striking resemblance to the early stages of a tornado or waterspout, they can be distinguished by their lack of rotation.

As comments on this cloud flooded social media, reassurance spread that the mysterious cloud was nothing more than a natural weather phenomenon. One user wrote, “Lord Voldemort is back…”. Another user said, “It means the dark lord has returned.”
Despite its unsettling appearance, there was no need for panic or wizarding intervention.
