A Chinese woman, upon arriving to take her theoretical driving test in Canada, was taken aback by the large number of Indians at the centre. She recorded a video in which she expressed her surprise in Chinese, roughly translating to: “This is terrible. I’m surrounded by Indians in Canada. Let me take a candid photo so you can see.”
X user @iamyesyouareno posted the video on the platform with a caption “A Chinese woman is shocked by the amount of Indians in Canada. Canada is becoming less Canadian by the day. Everyone is noticing it.” The video has already garnered 2.8 million views.
In the video, the woman also said, “This is one place to take the theoretical driver’s license test. Take a look. People who didn’t know thought I was in India.”

Reactions to the video have been mixed, with several users noting the irony that the woman herself is an immigrant in Canada.
One user wrote, “Canada’s identity has been evolving for centuries, with waves of immigrants from all over the world. Whether it was Europeans, Asians, or others, that diversity is what makes Canada what it is today.”
Another person added, “A foreigner is shocked by the amount of foreigners.” A third user commented, “This is so ironic though because there are way more Chinese here.”
The video has gone viral at a time Canada declared its plans to significantly cut back on the issuance of study permits to international students and introduced stricter rules for foreign workers. Earlier this month, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau shared on X, “We’re granting 35% fewer international student permits this year. And next year, that number’s going down by another 10%”.
