Anti-Israel protests in Bangladesh turned violent on Monday when an unruly mob targeted businesses including Bata and KFC outlets in multiple regions of the country. Police have arrested at least 49 people in connection with the vandalism, reported the Dhaka Tribune.
The demonstrations, which spread to several cities such as Bogra, Sylhet, Cox’s Bazar, and Chittagong, saw crowds protesting against Israel’s military action targeting Palestinians in Gaza. Many protesters focused on businesses they believed had Israeli connections, leading to widespread property damage and disruptions. In some areas, demonstrators also blocked streets, the newspaper reported.
In a viral video, a mob can be seen vandalising and looting a Bata footwear showroom. Several men smash glass walls with bricks. Another video shows a mob protesting outside a KFC outlet and damaging it.

#BREAKING 🚨
In Bangladesh, Islamists are openly rallying for Hamas, vandalizing places like KFC, and calling for boycotts of U.S. and Israeli products. Despite the chaos, authorities have taken no action as anti-Israel , anti-America and anti-India slogans continue to spread.… pic.twitter.com/IRNDXxZ0DM— Voice of Bangladeshi Hindus 🇧🇩 (@VHindus71) April 7, 2025
Several social media users have reacted to the vandalism in Bangladesh. “Same like Pakistan this country will also become rogue,” reads a comment. Another user wrote, “This is beyond irrational hurting your own economy to oppose another. Bata was founded in Czech Republic, has Indian roots through decades of employment, and isn’t even Israeli. This isn’t protest. This is misinformed chaos dressed as outrage.”
The police are using video footage from the protests to identify the vandals, warning that any criminal activity disguised as protest would not be tolerated and that those responsible would face legal action, NDTV reported.
