A lot of people envisage writing a message and then throwing it into the sea so that in the future someone finds it. A woman in Australia found a similar message in a bottle and traced the eight-year-old girl who had written it.

A Facebook page called Good Will Nurdle Hunting shared a video of Ros Evans who found the message in a plastic bottle while she was engaged in picking up rubbish along the coastline at a beach in Warrnambool city in Australia.

“My name is Ines Zepcan. I am 8 years old, whoever finds this bottle will have good luck for life from me and my family,” the message said. It also had an email address at the bottom. The Facebook page informed in the caption that they found the sender. Evans found the girl on Instagram.

The message was written 10 years ago and the girl is now 18 years old. The girl wrote back, “Hello! Yes I have! I just saw the video on your page and that is my mum’s email address haha. My siblings and I sent that bottle off a pier in Portland Victoria exactly 10 years ago! I’m sorry we couldn’t send a million pounds along with the message, but I’m so glad you guys reached out, has really brought back a lot of memories for me and my family. Probably not the most environmentally friendly choice made by my eight year old self, so I think I might have some cleaning up to do.”

Evans is part of a team of volunteers at Warrnambool’s Beach Patrol 3280 who spend hours each week cleaning the shore and picking up trash along the coastline.
