An engineer using the handle “STS 3D” has sparked a buzz online with an invention—a sentry rifle powered by ChatGPT. The device, which can follow voice commands to fire at objects of specific colours, quickly captured public attention after demonstration videos went viral.

In one clip, the engineer showcased the rifle’s capabilities by issuing a command: “ChatGPT, begin colour tracking on the colour black.” The rifle points at black balloons and fires with precision. By integrating ChatGPT, the system processes voice instructions in real time, enabling dynamic and colour-specific targeting. This invention has left many intrigued, sparking debates about its potential and implications.

Following the widespread circulation of the videos, OpenAI intervened, citing breaches of its usage guidelines. The organisation raised alarms about the potential for harmful applications of AI technology. It was confirmed by OpenAI that the engineer’s access to ChatGPT was revoked to halt any further progress on the contentious project, according to The Daily Guardian.

This event has sparked discussions regarding the ethical limits of AI usage, with critics highlighting the risks of misuse and advocating for tighter regulations. Netizens voiced their dissatisfaction in the comments section of the video.

A user wrote, “The creation of AI-driven weapons raises serious ethical and safety concerns. While it’s fascinating from a technological standpoint, controlling such systems to ensure they’re only used responsibly is crucial to prevent misuse and potential harm.”

Another user said, “This is terrifying. What’s to stop this thing from being hacked or used maliciously? We need to have a serious conversation about the ethics of AI development before it’s too late. I’m all for innovation, but not at the cost of our safety and security. We can’t just create powerful technology without considering the potential consequences. This is a recipe for disaster. Elon Musk, where are you on this? We need your guidance on responsible AI development. This is getting out of hand.”

A third individual commented, “AI guns that follow voice commands? Sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen.”
