Man asks for Hindu driver. Twitter applauds Ola’s firm reply

Ola Cabs was trending at #7 in India on Twitter.

Ola Cabs, a popular app-based taxi service in India, received a pat on the back from Twitter users for its sensitive and solid reply to a user who wanted a Hindu driver.

On Monday, Seelam Veerapa Naidu, whose Twitter account calls him a physician based in Hyderabad, tweeted to Ola asking for a Hindu driver for his ride.

However, Ola tweeted back saying, “Sorry, we do not discriminate against our drivers on the basis of their religion.”

Though initially, the passenger seemed defiant terming his request ‘customer preference’ rather than discrimination, he eventually toned it down after getting slammed by Twitter. He said that his intention was not to hurt anyone. He also put across a snide remark to Ola, saying that private conversation was “misused for publicity sake.”

On the other hand, the taxi service’s thoughtful response received immense praise especially on Twitter from public personalities like Omar Abdullah and Milind Deora. Its tweet was re-tweeted more than 1,000 times and Ola Cabs was trending at #7 in India when this article was written.

It also got a thumbs-up from its rival taxi service: Uber Cabs.
