A patchy internet connection could be one of the primary issues that could prevent one from making an audio and video call on WhatsApp. Make sure that your phone has a strong cellular signal or the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network with slightly higher bandwidth to initiate a call from WhatsApp. Even if you have an active internet connection, disabling and re-enabling the network could also solve the WhatsApp calling issue.
Even if you have an active internet connection and WhatsApp calling is not working, restarting your device could also help you resolve this issue. First, try to open and close WhatsApp, and then fully shut down your smartphone and turn it on. Once turned on, you should be able to make calls on WhatsApp.
If you have an older version of WhatsApp, it could also interfere while trying to make a call, and it’s always recommended to install the latest version of WhatsApp from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Also, make sure that if you are using a VPN, disable the same, as some countries do not support VoIP-based calls, and WhatsApp calls are based on VoIP or voice-over-internet protocol.

A third-party app will not give access to all the latest WhatsApp features, and it could also lead to personal data theft. There is also a chance that WhatsApp might permanently ban you from accessing the platform.
