Oppo's pop-up store in Cologne (Image credit: Oppo)The first day of April is celebrated as “April Fools Day,” where people try to trick others into believing something that’s faux. Consumer tech brands like to get in on the fun as well, typically by announcing futuristic-looking products that are too good to be true. This year, many brands have actively participated in this campaign, and here are some of the most interesting (fake) announcements on the 2024 edition of April Fools Day.

Oppo is one of the first brands to launch a smartphone with a pop-up selfie camera, and the company has now gone a step ahead and fake-announced the world’s first smartphone with a pop-up perfume dispenser known as “Eau de Innovation.” It comes with three premium perfume options — Silicone Musk, Code Couture, and Megapixel Mist, named after various smartphone technologies, and even the dispenser looks like a camera sensor.
Eau de Innovation, the flagship smartphone from Oppo is equipped with Olfactory Sensory Enhancement (NOSE) Technology, which uses nanoparticles to create and store different fragrances. Users will be able to experience these perfumes at the company’s pop-up store in Cologne. But of course, there’s no town named Cologne.
