The Mumbai crime branch has busted an illegal drug manufacturing unit in Satara and allegedly seized 7.5 kilograms of mephedrone (MD) and raw material worth approximately ₹115 crore.
Police arrested seven people from Mumbai, Pune, and Satara. The arrested accused have been identified as Salim Abdul Hamid Sheikh, Rais Riyaz Sheikh, Kuruvilla Omen Cherian, Vishal Jagannath More, Saddam Najjar Abbas Syed, Rajekul Khalilul Rahman, and Habijul Fakrul Islam.
According to the police, an official of Unit 7 nabbed two persons in the Mulund area on December 9 and during search, found 136 grams of MD in their possession. A case was registered, and both the accused were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. During interrogation, the arrested accused revealed that MD was procured from a hotel in Pune.
Officials of Unit 7 then formed two teams, and one team nabbed an accused from Ghodbunder Road in Thane. Another team went to Pune and arrested another accused from Pune, who during interrogation revealed that his associates have been manufacturing contraband in Satara district.
The Mumbai crime branch, based on the detailed information, alerted the Satara police, and along with them raided a makeshift shed on a farmland in Savarigaon, Javli Taluka, in Satara district.
During the raid, police alleged that they found 7.5 kg of solid mephedrone, 38 kg of liquid mephedrone, along with chemicals and several other equipment used in the manufacturing of MD, totaling to Rs. 115 crore. The police arrested three accused from there, said a crime branch officer.
