Women have long been told a lie, that shaving with a razor blade will give us a luxurious beard. Well, the only thing that gives us women unwanted facial hair is polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). In my case, laser treatment along with appropriate hormonal therapy (as advised by my doctor) helped reduce this growth significantly. And yes, before each laser session, the hair is typically shaved off. That’s how the female razor became my trusty friend since 2018 when it came to removing hair on my upper lip. So when Philips sent their new Facial Hair Remover, I was intrigued. This is an electrical device, which does the job without any cuts or burns. After using it, I’m convinced this will be my regular device for removing facial hair.

The Philips Facial Hair Remover comes in a pink colour variant and resembles a long tube. You have to remove the bottom part to add the batteries (two AA ones), and you are good to go. The hair remover tool (aka the tiny tiny blades) is on the top. It also comes with an LED light, which goes on when you start using the tool. One has to twist the bottom to switch on the device– this took a few tries on my part, and you’re in business.

Philips says you can use this on the cheeks, the upper lips, the jawline, and the upper eyebrow area. It is not recommended that you use this on the lower eyebrow at all. I used this around my cheeks, face and upper lip without any pain or cuts, and it did a pretty good job. Do remember that my facial hair growth is minimal for someone with PCOS, given my previous laser treatment. I found the Philips remover sufficient for my needs. But it should work fine for women with slightly thicker facial hair.

I also used it above my eye-brows– though I was terrified when doing this, because nobody wants to accidentally remove half their eyebrow. Thankfully, my eyebrows were intact, though I feel it didn’t fully get rid of all my hair on the forehead. But in this particular area, I went with the lightest touch when using this machine, so that could be the reason.

I also liked the little LED light that goes on when you are shaving to let you see the skin in closer detail. If you are looking for a facial hair remover that doesn’t leave cuts all over and does the job well, this is a good option. Plus, the size of this device means you can carry it around in your purse while travelling. I’d say get the Philips Facial Hair Remover if you are sick of being shamed every time you go to the beauty parlour to get face threading done. Philips does the job with zero sarcasm or shaming.
