Back in 2011, WhatsApp introduced group chats. Over the years, the developers have changed the way we participate in group chats and introduced several new features. Now, a recent report by WABetaInfo suggests that the instant messaging platform is rolling out a new approval feature for group chat admins.
Available on the latest version of WhatsApp beta for iOS and Android, the new feature makes it easy for group admins to manage participants in a group chat. When turned on, users will see a message in the group chat suggesting that new participants will have to seek approval from the admin before they are able to join the group even if they have a group invite link.
The option to approve new group members is really useful for admins who want to control who joins a group or for public communities with a huge number of participants. To find the new setting, simply head over to the group setting and you will find an option called ‘Approve New Participants’. Turn it on and you are good to go.
WhatsApp is currently rolling out the ability to approve new participants in a group chat, so you might have to wait a while before it is available on your device. Earlier this month, the app introduced a new split view interface on Android tablets and a call link feature for the Windows version of the app.
