WhatsApp has been working on the edit button for quite a while now. (Image Source: Unsplash) WhatsApp, the go-to platform for billions to keep in touch with the people in their life frequently receives new updates that introduce useful features like reporting inappropriate messages on group chat and silence calls from unknown numbers.
But one of the most anticipated features is the ability to edit sent messages. Earlier this year, the developers were reportedly testing the ability to edit messages up to 15 minutes after they are sent.
Now, the edit button seems to have found its way to the beta version of WhatsApp, as suggested by a recent report by WABetaInfo. Just days after the beta version of WhatsApp web received the feature, some users on WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.10.13 reportedly that they were also able to edit messages within groups and chats.
A screenshot indicates that the edit button might as well be hidden under the three-dot menu that appears on the top right of the screen when you select a message. While there seems to be no limit as how to many times you can edit a sent message, there is a hard time limit of 15 minutes after which WhatsApp will not let you modify the contents of the message.
And just like iMessage, WhatsApp users will be able to determine if a message has been edited or not using the ‘edited’ label that appears within the message bubble. If you are wondering why WhatsApp is setting a 15-minute limit, it is because the edit feature is designed to be a tool that lets users fix their typos and mistakes.
As of now, the edit feature is available to select beta testers and only supports text messages, but WhatsApp might change it in the near future. While WhatsApp is yet to share any timeline on when the edit feature will be available to everyone, try installing WhatsApp beta for Android and see if it’s available on your device.
